Hants County CAN offers a wage subsidy program to employers as an incentive to hire individuals who will benefit by learning new skills and gaining valuable work experience. It also gives you (as the employer) a chance to see what our clients can do without a big financial commitment!
Our program offers 50% wage subsidy - of minimum wage - to employers who agree to hire any of our clients. The wage subsidy program can last for up to 3 months.
There are no fees associated with this service, just a small amount of paperwork.
Hants County CAN also offers accommodation money for any assistive device that our clients may need to do their job. Some examples of accommodations we provide are: work boots, gloves, uniforms, hearing aids, assistive technology…such as bigger keyboards or voice recognition software, etc.
The workplace accommodation program will purchase the ‘equipment’ that our client needs and then be passed onto the client to use at his/her place of employment.
What does this service cost my business? There are no fees associated with this service. Hants County CAN provides the funds that go directly to the workplace accommodation.
Let’s face it, it can be time consuming to train a new employee, but that’s where we come in. Hants County CAN offers job coaching services to assist newly hired employees at your business or a current employee who is having trouble managing their tasks and would benefit from some on-the-job ‘coaching’ or training. Our focus in mainly with persons with disabilities or other barrier(s), although we are happy to assist any employer with their employees.
The Job Coach will provide support and even train your employee (to your specifications) with some guidance from their supervisor. We do not replace their supervisor. If the employee has any issues or concerns they are encouraged to talk to him or her just like another employee would. We are only there to assist with the initial training and support until the employee has built the confidence they need to be successful on the job. From day 1 we gradually begin to fade from the job site.
Regardless of how long our Job Coaches assist your employees, they are always available for check-ins or calls to assist both the employer & employee with any developing issues or concerns.\
What are the benefits to Businesses who utilize Job Coaches?
- Job Coaches reduce the time it takes businesses to locate workers by giving the business access to a pool of pre-screened candidates.
- Training and staff support from the Job Coach will merge with the style of the company…it is done to your specifications.
- The Job Coach will ensure this support and training continues until the new employee is completely up to speed.
- Job Coaches can assist with the identification of other accommodations for the company and be a resource for their diversity efforts.
- Job Coaches will be at the business to provide ongoing supports and job retention services.
- Your business can reduce the costs associated with hiring and training a new employee.

Hants County CAN offers workshops to businesses who want additional training for their employees. These workshops can be tailored to suit the individual needs of your business. Our workshops include:
- Computer Training
- Customer Service
- Communication Skills/Workplace Etiquette
- Stress Management
- *WHMIS
- *Emergency 1st Aid and CPR
* this course is put on by St. John Ambulance and hosted by Hants County CAN
The costs of these workshops are between $25/person and $45/person, depending upon the location, if the course has been tailor made, etc.

No payroll problems: We bill you, so you only have to write one cheque and then we pay the workers.
Our clients will work for a one-time job to assist with counting inventory or an on-going cleaning job once a month. You decide what you need done and how often.
What is this going to cost my business?
Package A – Consists of smaller jobs, such as paperwork and other types of office work.
Cost: $9.00 per hour.
Package B – Consists of bigger/physical tasks, such as cleaning and labour work.
Cost: $12.00 per hour.
