Lisa, a member of the Board of Directors of Hants County CAN and WHDAR, was most deservedly recognized today for her volunteerism.  This is the text from the Award Ceremony:

Lisa Wood ~

Municipality of the District of West Hants

Lisa began her volunteer career with the Windsor Elementary School

Breakfast program. Having had her own brother a quadriplegic, and

knowing firsthand the barriers faced by persons with disabilities, she

volunteered to sit on the Board of Directors for Hants County Community

Access Network. Lisa also helped raise funds and supported the Chair

Leaders Event in Windsor, meant to focus on and highlight the need for local

businesses to make accessibility a priority. She has also been on the Board of

Directors of the Annapolis Valley Real Estate Board and was chairperson of

the Social Committee, Hants County Community Access Network as well

as on the Board of Directors for Avon River Days, 2014. Lisa has also been

involved in many local community fundraisers, such as one to purchase a

wheelchair accessible van for a young boy to helping fund an exo-skeleton

bionic suit for a young girl who was a quadriplegic. Thank you, Lisa, for

making volunteerism an important part of your life.

A new program was announced on Friday, October 26th by Minister More.

"The START Program will encourage employers to hire Nova Scotians requiring work experience and to register and employ apprentices.

Financial incentives will be provided to employers with a labour need willing to support ready-to-work Nova Scotians. Incentives will vary depending on the type of employment offered, the skill level of the employee and could include a retention bonus"

More information on the program can be found at http://www.gov.ns.ca/employmentnovascotia/programs/start.asp
